Job Description

The Flight Director manages flight controllers at Saber’s Responsive Space Operations Centre (RSOC) in Australia. The FD is responsible for overall safety of flight, planning, and coordination for all activities related to Saber’s customer spacecraft. The FD will have overall responsibility for the performance of the flight team to include approvals for commands, maneuvers, and health and welfare of spacecraft under the RSOC’s control. The FD will have a firm understanding of orbital mechanics and spacecraft design, and an operational understanding of factors related to the space environment and its impact to missions in both Low Earth Orbit and Geosynchronous altitudes. Experience with large satellite constellations and space traffic management is a plus.


Requirements

Requirements include leadership for operator shift teams of four to eight people. The candidate will be first and foremost a team player comfortable with both civil space, corporate, and defence environments. The candidate will have a flexible personality able to work outside the box to learn new technologies and methods outside of traditional spaceflight approaches. The team will work with next generation space operations approaches to include Virtual Reality, machine learning flight diagnostics, and lead the implementation of various predictive flight safety tools.

Due to the secure nature of the work you may be required to perform, you must be Australian citizen. Non-negotiable. PR and work visas are not able to be hired for this position.

  • + 5-10 years experience in small satellite operations, systems, and related flight tasks
  • + Experience working with large numbers of satellites, constellations
  • + Ability to lead a team of operators, maintaining responsibility for their training and performance
  • + Experience with traditional TT&C, diagnostics, and on-orbit defect mitigation
  • + Experience with space traffic management tools and techniques
  • + Experience with space weather and operational understanding in the context of live flight
  • + A high level understand of machine learning techniques
  • + Working experience in spacecraft conceptual design, to include concurrent design
  • + Occasional domestic and international travel

Qualifications

  • + A Masters Degree or better in space engineering or related field
  • + Exceptional relationship and team building skills
  • + Must be an Australian citizen
