Boulder, Colorado — Saber Astronautics, a space operations company, secured a $1.25M contract from US Space Force to develop automation for space operations. Called “Windu”, Saber will work with the Space Force to automate the many tasks that operators have in space traffic and protect and defend missions.
This is important because of the rapid increase in the space industry, which is growing dramatically since 2019 from thousands of spacecraft on orbit to nearly 80,000 new satellites by 2032. Many of today’s current processes are manual, with subject matter experts monitoring space and tasking sensors to watch for problems on orbit.
Saber calls Windu a “Digital Guardian” which automates the processes of gathering evidence of important events that can affect flight safety, greatly increasing the output of individual human operators.
“Windu will bring balance to the Space Force,” quipped Nathan Parrott, the Director of Saber Astronautics USA. “As operators we spend hours every day finding the right tools and data to analyze a potential space threat. Now with the press of a button, Windu determines the right information for each event, giving insights far faster than a human operator can do alone. It’s an exceptional augment for space operators.”
Saber will host Windu on their flagship product Space CockpitTM, a highly popular Space Battle Management System in use by thousands of operators worldwide.
Dr Jason Held, CEO of Saber Astronautics, explains, “Space operations are at a turning point. The pace of activity in orbit is faster than ever before, and the stakes are incredibly high. With Windu, we’re giving operators the tools they need to stay ahead of threats, streamline decisions, and focus on their missions. This is more than technology—it's about empowering the people who keep space safe for everyone.”
About the Space Cockpit Battle Management System (SBMS)
Space Cockpit™ is a space battle management solution deployed across Secret and Top Secret networks providing the United States Space Force the ability to maintain robust Space Domain Awareness in real-time. Used by thousands of operators around the globe, Space Cockpit supports multiple Deltas, the 1st Space Operations Squadron, the 45th Space Wing, the National Space Defense Center, and multiple allied partners.
Space Cockpit also hosts the first and only marketplace for third-party applications to sell to the US DoD, the Space Applications Marketplace.
